What causes Blocked Drains
Drain blockages are often caused by a buildup of everyday materials such as grease, hair, soap scum, food waste, and even foreign objects. Over time, these materials can accumulate inside your pipes, restricting water flow and leading to full or partial blockages. Some common causes of drain blockages include:
- Grease and fat: When cooking oils and fats are poured down the drain, they can solidify and form stubborn blockages.
- Hair: Hair can easily collect in bathroom drains, especially in showers and sinks, leading to slow drainage.
- Soap scum: Soap residue can combine with minerals in your water to form a hard, chalky substance that clogs pipes.
- Food waste: Scraps of food that aren’t properly disposed of can easily get lodged in kitchen drains.
- Foreign objects: Items like wipes, sanitary products, and children’s toys can inadvertently find their way into drains, causing blockages.
