When It’s More Than Just a Blockage
If you find yourself battling frequent blockages, slow drainage throughout the house, or nasty smells that won’t go away, it might be time to consider whether something more serious is lurking in your pipes.
Here are a few issues a simple blockage might be hiding:
1. Collapsed or Damaged Pipes
Especially in older properties (and Bournemouth has its fair share), pipes can collapse or crack due to age, ground movement, or corrosion. These problems can cause recurring blockages and eventually lead to leaks, damp, or even structural damage.
2. Tree Root Intrusion
Roots are drawn to moisture, and even a tiny crack in your underground pipes can invite them in. Once inside, roots grow quickly, obstructing flow and damaging the pipework even further.
3. Poor Drainage Design or Installation
Older homes or poorly converted properties may have outdated or badly laid drainage systems. In some cases, builders have joined pipes incorrectly, leading to ongoing issues that won’t go away until the root cause is addressed.
